Jamie Lenore McKillop 😭
Jamie is the founder of lazy jamie, a home decor brand focusing on stainless steel tableware that celebrates the great indoors. She just launched the brand’s Substack, under covers by lazy jamie, where she shares realistic design tips for fellow indoors enthusiasts—while documenting the behind-the-scenes of developing a soon-to-launch high-design, next-gen TV tray. You may recall my adoration for Lazy Jamie’s spiral spoons and fish-shaped lemon squeezer, and I’m beyond thrilled to report that the woman behind the brand is everything and more.
What is your fridge philosophy?
I wish I was an “ingredients household” but I’m one of those people who buys a bag of lettuce and then slowly watches it decay.
More practically, I buy pre-made meals and snacks because I’ll actually eat them. If I take it out of the container and plate it or reheat it, I consider that cooking.
Your fridge is always always always stocked with ____.
Icelandic yogurt for some easy quick protein in the morning
Leftover takeout rice that I can reheat and eat with avocado and soy sauce in a hunger panic
Elmhurst Oat Creamer—the Unsweetened is very clean for a packaged oat milk, the French Vanilla is less clean but so so good, and still “healthier” than other flavored creamers
Erewhon grab-and-go sides and wraps (sorry!). The Erewhon membership may or may not be the only reason I’ve memorized my husband’s phone number. IYKYK
Some sort of dip like guacamole, tzatziki, and/or hummus
Top 5 condiments, go.
Horseradish mustard on anything and everything
Ketchup (Heinz, I tried the imposter kind and I can’t do it)
Tamari
A very mild (read: white girl) hot sauce
Honey (so my yogurt tastes less like yogurt)
Fine, I’ll open it up to pantry too. Let’s hear your favorite snacks / pantry staples:
First Class Nut Mix (yes, like the kind served on airplanes)
Some sort of crunch, like Enjoy Life Lentil Chips or tortilla chips
Ancient Harvest gluten free pasta noodles, these are the only ones that taste like the real thing to me and don’t upset my stomach
A meal that’s on heavy rotation these days:
My version of really getting intricate in the kitchen is to pair pre-made turkey meatballs with gluten free pasta (or zoodles if you are one of those) and your sauce of choice. You can add spinach mixed in or on the side as a green. (Steam it by straining the pasta over it directly in the strainer.) I’m trying to eat 100g of protein per day and this helps get me there but still feels like a comfort food Italian dinner with a healthier lens on it.
Let’s go a little deeper…
What’s the mantra you keep coming back to?
Progress not perfection. As an entrepreneur this is something I have to remind myself of daily. I think a lot more people would do a lot more if they didn’t feel like everything had to be perfect or completely figured out before putting it out into the world. That kind of thinking can be a poison to your creativity and to your growth, but it requires a lot of deprogramming to undo.
What products / practices are part of your regular mental wellness habits?
I do therapy once a week. I started a few years ago, when I developed a debilitating fear of flying out of what felt like nowhere. Really, it was a fear of losing control, which I’ve worked to become much more comfortable with.
I used to journal and meditate each day. I flow in and out of being regimented with it, but I’ve gotten better at not beating myself up when I’m out of practice. Like I said, progress, not perfection. This is something that can be applied to almost any area.
I do like to read before bed because it puts me right to sleep. Lol.
And your physical?
I workout at least five times per week. I do a mix of Pilates and strength training, which is a nice complement together. I got into weight lifting recently after I learned more about how it not only helps women retain muscle and bone as we age, but keeps our hormones and insulin resistance in balance. Sexy, I know.
Getting facials once a month has transformed my skin. If you struggle with your skin, I strongly suggest investing in an esthetician in a doctor’s office that offers a treatment specific to your skin.
What do you think is the most underrated part of wellness?
The routine of it all, no matter what the routine actually is, adds structure to your day and there’s comfort and safety within that structure. Sometimes just doing something is more important than what the actual thing is.
And overrated?
Fun fact: I was one of the first-ever editors at Well+Good, which is a women’s wellness media site. I worked there over 10 years ago, just as the boutique fitness and juice bar scene was really blowing up in New York. Almost like fashion, so much of what was popular then in wellness is coming back into style. (I’m looking at you, Tracy Anderson.)
There are so many fads in wellness, not just in diets but in workouts and habits. Cut through the noise and find what works for you.
Picture this: you wake up one morning and feel like shit. What’s your next move:
I wish I could share a cure all or hack. Most of the time when I feel like this, I default it to being a “lost day” and lean into not being as focused or productive as I’d like to be, which isn’t maybe the best approach. On days when I’ve successfully shifted my mood, it’s usually because I’ve forced myself to get up, shower, and get outside, even when all I wanted to do was lay in bed and rot.
Give us your ride or die wellness products:
For body: I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and prescribed these supplements by my doctor to help manage hormone imbalance: DIM, vitamin D, inositol, sensitol, and berberine
For skin: SKINBOLIC Repair Angel Nutrient Regeneration Essence, MAJAFIRM Ceramides & Peptides Premium Anti-Aging Facial Serum, anything from SkinCeuticals
For hair: I’ve tried all of the natural hair supplements, but I started taking the oral minoxidil after it was approved, and it’s the only thing that really works for me.
One thing you do everyday that makes you the most YOU version of yourself:
Silent screen time with my cat, Karlie.
Whose taste inspires you?!
I have pulled so many furniture design references over the past two years, and I always come back to Eileen Gray. Of course, her E1027 Adjustable Table is the blueprint for a high-functioning side table akin to a tv tray, but all of her pieces had this softness and richness to them that I feel was missed elsewhere in the Modernist movement. All of her designs are still so relevant and timeless today.
Big thanks to Jamie for sharing a taste of her life with us. All of her homeware pieces give me this sense of tranquility and joy, and I can now confirm it comes straight from the source. Learn from her home decor wisdom at

Wait, steaming spinach directly in the strainer is genius
