Taryn Toomey πΆβπ«οΈ
Taryn is the founder of The Class, a globally recognized, music-driven somatic practice for transformation and nervous system regulation. Sheβs spent over 25 years exploring the connection between mind, body, and spirit through movement, breath, and sound to create this practice which now has studios in NY and LA, as well as a worldwide digital platform and immersive retreats. I donβt have to tell you all that Taryn is a pillar of NYCβs wellness scene, so itβs a real honor to look inside of her fridge today.
What is your fridge philosophy?Β
Every time I open it, I think I need to go to the grocery store. I live above a Whole Foods, which is a blessing and a curse. My fridge is not usually stocked because when I want something⦠I go downstairs.
Your fridge is always always always stocked with ____.
Filtered water
Poppi - for the girls
Natural Wine
Celery - for juicing
Soup from the farmers market
CHEESE
Face masks - when I make my coffee in the morning I throw on a face mask - always multitasking
Top 5 condiments, go.
Mayo

Ketchup

Fine, Iβll open it up to pantry too. Letβs hear your favorite snacks / pantry staples:Β
Kroma Snacks: for when Iβm on the go, as Iβm on the road a lot
Love anything The Goods Mart has on their radar:
A meal thatβs on heavy rotation these days:
Iβm trying to un-learn this behavior but my go-to snack is a protein bar. As I'm on the go so much β school, studio, office, home β they become a lilly pad to the next meal.
I just found a new favorite at Happier Grocery - David.
When I have more time, my all time favorite is meat with mayonnaise in lettuce cups or seaweed.
Letβs go a little deeperβ¦Β
Whatβs the mantra you keep coming back to?
Relax⦠and let it flow.
It is important to figure out when it is best for you to use a mantra and practice using it so when you are deep into something, you have the skills to use it. For me, when I'm walking the streets alone. Relax, and let it flow.
What products / practices are part of your regular mental wellness habits?Β
Morning warm water and lemon. Breath work while I move around the apartment in the morning - open up and flush the lungs. Circulate the energy in my body.
Epsom salt for every bath (I take a bath pretty much every night).
I use May Lindstromβs The Problem Solver masque a few nights a week in the bath. I have this beautiful dish that she provides with it, and with the brush it really just feels so luxurious and soothing.
And your physical?
Higher Dose Infrared Sauna session
Dry brushing β it wakes up my skin and my circulation.Placing my forehead on the ground and breathing. When I am doing way too much (at once, usually), itβs a walk by the water.
Any light on my face.
What do you think is the most underrated part of wellness?Β
Emotional release and embodiment. The deep, often uncomfortable work of moving emotions through the body rather than just focusing on external wellness practices β learning to hold a space for what one may view as a βnegativeβ emotion β and work create a neutrality around the whole emotional spectrum.
And overrated?
Doing something so you can film yourself doing it. I think it creates a weird sense of NOT trusting yourself. I like just doing it, because you do it, because it works for you.
Picture this: you wake up one morning and feel like shit. Whatβs your next move:Β
MOVE and sweat. Iβve been like this since I can remember. I donβt think Iβve ever woken up after being over-served or not taking care of myself and not headed straight for a sweat session.
Give us your ride or die wellness products:
Higher Dose Infrared Sauna β we have one in our office
Three pillows under my legs at night
One thing you do everyday that makes you the most YOU version of yourself:Β
I listen to my body and move accordingly.
Whose taste inspires you?!Β
Stevie Nicks and Florence Welch
