Heather Hurst ๐
is a writer, personal stylist, and content creator living in Brooklyn with her best friend and her dog, Pig. I find Heatherโs creativity hugely inspiring, so Iโm very excited for you to experience a just a bit of it here. What is your fridge philosophy?ย
If it ainโt broke, donโt fix it.
Your fridge is always always always stocked with ____.
Ghia, frozen organic chicken nuggets, parsley, eggs, hummus, Siggiโs lemon yogurt, frozen Costco veggies, arugula, frozen PB dates
Top condiment picks, go.
Honey mustard
Raspberry jam
Fine, Iโll open it up to pantry too. Letโs hear your favorite snacks / pantry staples:ย
Chocolate chips, pretzels, quicos, Annieโs mac and cheese, and a box of emergency cereal (usually Cocoa Krispies).
A meal thatโs on heavy rotation these days:
Every morning, I have coffee with collagen and whole milk. I either eat Siggiโs yogurt with fruit and muesli, or a breakfast taco with eggs, veggies, salsa, cheese, and loads of parsley. I want to eat parsley every day.
In winter, itโs NYT chickpea stew (Alison Roman cancellation stew?!) or a turkey meatball soup with pastina and loads of parsley.
Letโs go a little deeperโฆย
Whatโs the mantra you keep coming back to?
Change is the only constant. Asking myself โwhat would future me do?โ, then doing that.
What products / practices are part of your regular mental wellness habits?ย
Reading, sitting outside, meeting new people: I need a constant reminder of how big the world is, and a way to live all the lives I wonโt be able to live. Last week I met someone dating a professional clown.
Journaling: Iโve kept stream-of-consciousness vibe-only, no agenda journals since 2011, which is an incredibly humbling and humorous way to see what changes and what stays the same.
Disappearing: I love going to the movies, hiking, and camping (less frequently now in NY without a car). I only keep 8 apps on my home screen (no socials) and try to delete apps from my phone on weekends or leave it at home entirely. Itโs greatly improved my memory and relationship with self-imposed immediacy.
Getting dressed: look good, feel good. Trite/true.
And your physical?
Yoga, hiking, Solidcore, walking.
Iโm starting weightlifting and mobility work this year because I want to age like my 90-year-old friend who still lives alone and walks every morning to meet her friends for coffee.
What do you think is the most underrated part of wellness?ย
Being bored (restorative yoga, sitting in quiet, doing less, not rushing) and doing what works before doing whatโs sexy. The greatest gift I give myself is more time to enjoy.
And overrated?
Too many apps. Over-optimizing for the sake of it. Stress is also a chronic illness and many of us take on too much of it quantifying the self in the name of โwellness.โ
Picture this: you wake up one morning and feel like shit. Whatโs your next move:ย
Eat cereal and watercolor or watch something random. It canโt be on a news app, social media app, or even Substack, as the immediacy-proximity-algorithm dynamic of those channels is too overwhelming and distracting.
Recently: YouTube video on public transit in China, Lauren Ezersky interview, Susan Sontag essay.

One thing you do everyday that makes you the most YOU version of yourself:ย
Two, because more is more: singing and having dessert.
Whose taste inspires you?!ย
Louise Bourgeois, Spencer Malinski,
Huge thank you to my darling friend
for sharing her fridge, and consequently, her life. Sheโs probably my favorite follow on Instagram and TikTok (not just saying that because sheโs my pal), and read her writing over at . All of her fridge favorites + more are here.Feel free to leave a comment or respond to this email with questions you want asked, people you want featured, or anything else thatโs on your mind. Donโt be shy, I love hearing from you.
This was one of my favorites for the very self-centred reason that it was super relatable -- watercolour, shatta, breakfast tacos, youtube video essays, Sontag, a weighted blanket, less apps. A woman after my own heart!
I love this series so much! Getting dressed + deleting apps: a way of life.
