Hey hey,
I’m back in your inbox with another review, and this time it has to do with one of my favorite topics… gut health. This one goes out to all my IBS kings and queens.
Review #2 - Seed 🌱
What Is It
Seed is first and foremost a “microbial sciences company” that’s “pioneering applications of microbes to improve human and planetary health.” Their only product is a Synbiotic (DS-01 for adults and PDS-08 for kids), a prebiotic & probiotic blend that “benefits gut immune function and whole-body health”.
Aesthetic
Seed was one of the OGs at creating an incredible user experience, with everything from sleek packaging to subscription refills to non-ugly sustainability. Your first order is a “welcome kit” complete with a refillable glass jar, an additional travel vial, and a 30-day supply of Synbiotic capsules.
Actually, I was recently in conversation with someone about how they really kicked off the trend of making an unsexy part of wellness routines something to show off, a status symbol. Imagine looking through a potential partner’s medicine cabinet and seeing their jar of probiotics displayed sleekly next to their Aesop hand wash. Hot.
Brand / Marketing
Following suit in the aesthetics department, the overall brand identity is very solid. What I like about it is that they’re clear on being science-first, product second. Seed is the consumer division of Seed Health, a team of scientists and innovators that’s dedicated to fostering a “symbiotic coexistence [of humans] with our natural world”. However, it gets a little confusing if you try looking into what Seed Health actually is, and how it’s separate from SeedLabs? Either way, they’ve positioned themselves as a highly credible group of innovators by delivering their own scientific research as marketing materials for their product, so I digress.
Nerd alert: I’m fascinated by the content on their newsletter, blog, and Instagram (admit it, you’ve always wondered this), but for my reading-averse friends, their unbelievable influencer marketing may be what’s turning you onto the brand.
Don’t worry, they didn’t abandon their dedication to credibility by paying white women to brag about their regular bowel movements on Instagram stories. Each influencer who joins Seed’s affiliate community has to take an hour-long course about the microbiome, and pledge their allegiance to #accountability in their influencing. Honestly, genius.
I give major props to Lily, Marti, and the founding influencer marketing team on creating one of the most incredible programs of its time, so early on in the space. (FYI: they founded their own influencer marketing agency, Superbloom, so you can actually work with the best in the biz).
Efficacy
The moment you’ve been waiting for — does it actually work? I’m, like, 75% sure yes. IBS is something I’ve dealt with for quite a while, and I will say that my digestion significantly improved after starting Seed’s Synbiotic. Is it a cure-all for gut issues? Unfortunately not, that’ll be a little require a little more holistic healing. But is it arguably the best* probiotic option on the market? I’d say so.
*Based on the stupid amount of probiotics I’ve tried. When I say best, I’m factoring in quality, accessibility, transparency in their sourcing, and obviously, regularity-induction(?).
Overall Thoughts
If you’ve made it this far through my strange and unsponsored ode to a $50 probiotic company, you can probably tell that I’m a fan. I don’t have much to add, except that I think they could make some solid merch / collab with some fun partners. Anyone at Seed reading this, HMU for ideas.
